Box Score

ST. PAUL (Dec. 10, 2008) –
The Northwestern College women's basketball team fell to 2-8 overall (1-1 UMAC) after losing to the visiting Yellowjackets from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Despite the Eagles' 28 bench points and 14 second chance points, Superior held NWC to 31.3 percent shooting for the game, including a 23.5 mark in the first half.

UW-Superior jumped out to a 9-2 lead before three minutes had ticked off the clock, setting a pace for a half that resulted in a 30-20 score in favor of the Yellowjackets. Northwestern's Anna Weddig (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) tried to mount a comeback in the second half, but the Eagles couldn't overcome their first half deficit en route to a 62-50 final.

Northwestern was 20 of 64 from the field in the game while struggling even more behind the three-point line, going 3 of 19. Superior on the other hand, managed a 37 percent performance.

Weddig led NWC with 13 points and 12 rebounds for her first career double-double as a collegiate student-athlete. Ariel Liesch (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) had nine rebounds.

Superior had three players in double figures, including freshman Hailey Hart, who led her team with 17 points.

Northwestern has a long break in front of themselves, as the team won't play again until travelling to Orange City, Iowa to play in a holiday tournament on Dec. 30-31.
