Eagles continue undefeated streak vs. UMAC opponents; beat Martin Luther

NEW ULM, Minn. (Oct. 18, 2008) – Northwestern upped their consecutive wins mark to 11 on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Martin Luther College. The Eagles have yet to lose a UMAC contest this season, taking all nine conference matches that have come their way.
 
Kathryne Engel (Wayzata, Minn./West Lutheran) (Wayzata, Minn./West Lutheran) had 17 kills and a .361 attacking percentage for NWC, who hit .250 as a team. Steph Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) added 12 kills for the Eagles, while Leah Kostek (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian ) (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) and Hillary Slagter (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) combined for 47 assists.
 
Danielle Rhodes (Iowa City, Iowa/City) (Iowa City, Iowa/City) had a match-high 16 digs for Northwestern. Sarah Whitmore (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake Christian) (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake Christian) had four of Northwestern's six team blocks.

Jaime Eternick and Amanda Zwick both had double-digit kills for Martin Luther, who tallied 46 as a team.
 
With the win, Northwestern improves to 18-4 overall (9-0 UMAC) with five conference matches remaining this season. The Eagles will take a break from UMAC teams for the next few days, as they will travel to Carleton College on Tuesday, Oct. 21. That match should be exciting, as Carleton will be seeking revenge after taking a loss to Northwestern in the Ericksen Center on Sep. 10. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
