St. Paul, Minn., Oct. 16, 2007 – The Northwestern College men's soccer team avenged their 2-1 loss at Crown College from Sept. 25th on Tuesday, shutting out the Storm in a 3-0 final. Northwestern spread out their three goals in the win while depending on a steady defense to carry the team through to the end.
Calvin Kanowitz (St. Paul, MN/Johnson High School) (St. Paul, Minn./Johnson) kicked things off for the Eagles with a goal in the 27th minute after receiving a pass from Jacob Schweitz (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear).
After Northwestern maintained a 1-0 halftime lead,
Jacob Fast (Eagan, MN/Henry Sibley High School) (Eagan, Minn./Henry Sibley) added another goal at 50:49.
David Mugambira (Waltham/Vienna College, Kampala Uganda) (Waltham, Uganda) wrapped up the scoring for the Eagles, putting a goal past Crown's Jay Clementson in the 68th minte.
Josiah DeFelice (Temuco, Chile/Xenia Christian High School) (Temuco, Chile/Xenia Christian) and
Alex Reyes (Guatemala City/Christian Academy) (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Christian Academy) received credit for assists on the score.
Danny King (Willmar, MN/Willmar High School) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) and
Josh Niedermayer (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) (Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine) shared the shutout for NWC, tallying a total of four saves between the two of them.
The Eagles owned a huge 24-6 advantage in shots, while holding the upper hand on corner kicks at 5-4.
Improving to 6-8-2 (6-4-2 UMAC), Northwestern will hope to carry Tuesday's momentum into Friday, when they host St. Scholastica, who is tops in the UMAC standings. Game time at Reynolds Field is 1 p.m.
