Jordan Benson was hired as the Sports Information Director at the University of Northwestern in February, 2021. He ran the sports information department and coordinated events through a hectic 2021 spring season which saw baseball, softball, men’s/women’s lacrosse, football, men’s/women’s soccer, and volleyball all competing due to the national pandemic. Benson will run his first traditional fall season in 2021.
Benson graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) in 2016, earning his undergraduate degree in history. He then got his start in Sports Information serving as an intern at St. Olaf College, where he took on the duties of Game Day Site Manager. Following his time in Northfield, Benson moved on to Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW). He was there from 2018-2020 serving as the Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant, and earned his Master’s Degree from CUW.
Benson had a very impactful two years while at CUW. He spearheaded the innovation of the athletic department’s video production, a skill that he has brought with him and already showcased at Northwestern. Benson created video content that garnered thousands of views over many different social media platforms, and produced a 31-episode podcast that featured student athletes and coaches at CUW.
At CUW, Benson was the primary contact for the NACC Conference Tournaments for baseball and tennis in the spring of 2019. In the spring of 2021 Northwestern was selected to host a regional for the NCAA National Tournament. Benson coordinated the media for the six team tournament which included producing the live broadcasts, conducting interviews after the games, and much more. The broadcasts that went up on the Eagle Sports Network during the national tournament brought in national praise for its high quality.
Benson has already had a major impact on UNW’s athletic department through his work in sports information, and is looking forward to his first full athletic year at Northwestern.
