David Pederson

David Pederson is entering his 9th year being a part of the athletic department at the University of Northwestern, and his 4th year as a full-time staff member. Pederson served two years as the Assistant Sports Information Director before being named the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information in the Summer of 2023. Pederson oversees the UNW Sports Information Department.

Pederson has experience that will be relevant to his position in sports information. He has over five years of experience running social media accounts for collegiate athletic programs, and that will be a big part of his job in UNW’s Athletic Department. He introduced the program BoxOut Sports to the department, and the program has become the top source of graphics for Eagle athletics. Pederson also has experience broadcasting live sporting events, particularly at the University of Northwestern. He was the Sports Director for UNW’s student radio station, The Remnant, and hosted a live sports talk show and broadcasted many UNW football and basketball games for the station. Additionally, Pederson served as a Sports Information intern at UNW in 2017-2018 and commentated volleyball, football, basketball, soccer, baseball, and lacrosse games on the Eagles Sports Network.

In addition to his work in Sports Information, Pederson serves as the Associate Head Coach for the UNW Women's Basketball Team.  Coach Pederson has a lot of college coaching experience. He worked as a Student Assistant Coach for the Eagles' Men's Basketball Team from 2014-2018. UNW Basketball had a great run during these years. During Pederson’s first year on staff the Eagles won 18 straight games, which is a program record, and reached the NCAA National Tournament Sweet 16. During that run, the Eagles appeared as the #4 play on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays of the Night with sophomore Porter Morrell hitting a buzzer beating three pointer to beat the #3 seed in the country, St. Thomas. During Pederson’s first stint with the Eagles, the program won 2 conference titles and 3 conference tournament championships.

Following his first stint with UNW, Pederson worked as a Men's Basketball Graduate Assistant Coach at the University of Dubuque for two seasons. During this time, Pederson had a major role in recruiting, scouting, academic advising for the team, youth camps, and much more. Pederson’s time in Dubuque was highlighted by two wins over Top 25 nationally ranked teams. The work Pederson put in recruiting two classes for UD set up the Spartans for an undefeated run in 2021 that had them ranked #7 in the country.

Pederson returned to UNW for the 2020-2021 Men’s Basketball season. With Pederson back on staff, the Eagles won the conference tournament, and the NCCAA National Tournament. This post season run was highlighted by another appearance on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays, this time a Henry Fahnbulleh buzzer beating three that landed as the top play of the night. Pederson is the most active assistant coach in recruiting, and does the scouting reports for the upcoming opponents.

In 2021-2022, the Eagles went 22-7 and won the UMAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. The Eagles qualified for the NCAA National Tournament and lost by a single point to Pomona-Pitzer in the tournament.

After nine years coaching collegiate Men's Basketball (seven of those years at UNW) Pederson moved to the Women's side in 2023. The 2023-2024 season will be his first as the Associate Head Coach for the Women's Basketball team.

Coach Pederson currently resides in Roseville.
