Matthew Pederson is entering his second season as a student coach for the UNW Men's Basketball team. Matthew is a computer science major and has a minor in cybersecurity.
Matthew's first season with the Men's Basketball program was a historic season for the Eagles, and Matthew played no small part in that success. Matthew was a part of an Eagle team that set the program record for winning percentage in a season, going 17-3 on the year. The Eagles won the UMAC Tournament Championship by defeating St. Scholastica in Duluth, and advanced to the NCCAA Regional Championship Game. In that game, the Eagles won the regional championship and advanced to the NCCAA National Tournament on a buzzer beating three point shot by Henry Fahnbulleh. The shot would land as the top play of the night on Sportscenter's Top 10 Plays. In the National Tournament, the Eagles would defeat Lancaster Bible, Grace College, and Ottawa (AZ) on their way to winning the NCCAA Division I National Championship.
Matthew is a major asset to the Men's Basketball Coaching Staff. Matthew runs the clock and assists with drill work in practice, charts advanced stats in game to help the coaching staff, and assists in all day-to-day operations of the program.
Matthew is currently a senior at Northwestern and is set to graduate in May of 2022.
