SUPERIOR, Wis. - The University of Northwestern Men's Soccer team took on a tough task against the UW-Superior Yellowjackets on Tuesday night. After only trailing by one through the first half, the Eagles relented five goals in the second half for a 6-0 shutout.
Josiah Mezey (Monument, Colo./Village) recorded the Eagles' best shot on target that forced a save in the 2nd minute. After Mezey's shot, UWS took control and scored in the 10th minute. Northwestern tightened their defense for the remainder of the half, with the help of
Isaac Johnson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) in goal with five saves.
UW-Superior opened the second half with two goals in the first 10 minutes. With about 30 minutes remaining, the stadium lost power for several moments. After the power returned, the Yellowjackets secured another three goals before the close of the match.
Mezey,
Hayden McConnell (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill),
Braeden Morrow (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North), and
Kayden Dugger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop McNicholas) were the only Eagles to record a shot on target. Johnson played 83 minutes in goal for UNW and collected nine saves.
Georden Tschida (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) finished the game between the pipes, recording one save.
Northwestern will stay on the road with another conference match against Martin Luther. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 PM on Saturday, September 26.
