Eagles Swept in Florida Finale

ORLANDO, Fla. - In one last hurrah before departing sunny Florida for (soon-to-be) snowy Minnesota, the University of Northwestern Men's Tennis team took on Hampden-Sydney College from Virginia. The Tigers were in control from start-to-finish, earning a 7-0 sweep over UNW.

Hampden-Sydney clinched the doubles point with a pair of wins, defeating Northwestern's No. 3 team of Isaac Thomforde (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) and Zander Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin), 6-2, and the No. 1 pairing of Carson Haack (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Sam Majerus (River Falls, Wis./River Falls), 6-4. The Eagles were able to secure a thrilling win at No. 2 doubles, when Griffen Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) and Jacob Petrick (Omaha, Neb./Elkhorn North) escaped with a 7-6 (7-2) win.

Despite UNW winning the final doubles, match, HSC was able to sustain momentum in the singles round. Haack was swept, 0-6, 0-6 at No. 1, while Jarchow fell 0-6, 2-6 in the No. 2 match. At No. 5 singles, Carson Kramer lost 2-6, 1-6, and Thomforde suffered a 3-6, 2-6 defeat in the No. 3 slot. Majerus, who was back in the No. 4 spot for the first time in a while, came up short by a 1-6, 4-6 margin. The closest singles match of the day came at No. 6, where Petrick fell 4-6, 4-6.

Northwestern will have some time to rest and recover from a busy week down south before taking on Wartburg at 11:30 AM in Rogers on Saturday, March 21st.
