SUPERIOR, Wis. - The University of Northwestern Women's Track and Field team competed at the Maday Classic hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Superior, delivering a standout afternoon highlighted by multiple personal records and two victories from senior Emery Maki (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing).
Maki continues to make the most of her final season. Having already broken two program records this year and been a UMAC Track Athlete of the Week honoree, she added to her résumé with a dominant performance in the mile. Maki surged to a first-place finish by nearly 1.5 seconds, setting a new meet record by almost two seconds with a season-best time of 5:21.64. She later returned to the track for the 800 meters, edging out a runner from Minnesota Duluth by one tenth of a second to claim another first-place finish in 2:22.99.
Joining Maki in the mile were Cheyanne Scalese (Lancaster, Minn./Lancaster Public), Mariah Klippenes (South Haven, Minn./Annandale), Torah Barrett (Belle Plaine, Minn./Jordan), and Olivia Usselman (Stillwater, Minn./Math and Science Academy). Scalese turned in a personal record performance of 5:51.52 to place sixth. Klippenes, Barrett, and Usselman followed in ninth, tenth, and eleventh with times of 6:14.80, 6:19.33, and 6:24.46, respectively. Jessica Redman (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) also competed in the 800 meters with Maki, finishing ninth in 2:36.40.
In the sprints, freshman Alaina Wojtowski (Oshkosh, Wis./Valley Christian) continued her strong season in the 60 meters. The reigning UMAC Track Athlete of the Week qualified third in 8.25 seconds, alongside Katie Shilts (Cameron, Wis./Cameron) and Emily Neumann (St. Agusta, Minn./Sauk Rapids). Shilts qualified sixth with a personal record of 8.38, and Neumann also posted a personal best of 8.52 to advance. In the finals, Wojtowski improved her time to 8.16, securing another strong finish in second place. Shilts placed sixth overall in 8.40, and Neumann finished seventh in 8.51. Shilts and Neumann later raced in the 200 meters, each earning personal records. Shilts finished eighth in 28.58, while Neumann placed tenth in 28.99.
Lidia Castro (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) highlighted the 400 meters with a sixth-place finish and a personal record time of 1:06.01. Wojtowski tested herself in the longer sprint as well, placing tenth in 1:10.19.
Scalese continued her impressive day in the 1000 meters, collecting another personal record of 3:30.29 to finish fifth. Barrett followed in sixth with a time of 3:52.10.
In the 5000 meters, Alicia Arredondo (Robbinsdale, Minn./Homeschool) led the Eagles with a personal record of 19:59.64, shaving nearly two minutes off her previous best to place tenth. Caroline Stokes (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and Natalie Van De Riet (Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) also competed in the event.
Shilts capped her busy day in the field events. She placed third in the long jump with a mark of 4.49 meters (14' 8.75") and finished fifth in the triple jump at 9.72 meters (31' 10.75"). Lily Hubbard (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) joined her in the jumping events and tied her season-best high jump of 1.50 meters (4' 11") to place fourth.

With meet records, event victories, and personal bests across the board, the Eagles continue to build momentum as the indoor season nears its end. Northwestern will return to Superior in two weeks to compete in the UMAC Indoor Championships on February 27 and 28 to close out the 2026 indoor track and field season.
