BUFFALO LAKE, Minn. - Coming off an historic day Friday at the BLC Invite, it was never going to be easy for the University of Northwestern Men's Golf team to top it on Saturday at the MLC Fall Invitational at Oakdale Golf Club. While the Eagles came in second place as a team with a score of 297 (+9), they did get an ondividual medalist performance from freshman
Carson Besonen (Madison, Minn./Lac qui Parle Valley).
Besonen fired a 69 (-3) to tie his career low and win the event by three strokes, his second win of his rookie campaign.
Luke Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) tied for sixth place with a 74 (+2), while
Jackson Courteau (Otsego, Minn./Rogers),
Carter Dilly (Henning, Minn./Henning) and
Jakob Swanson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) tied for 13th with matching 77's (+5).
Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah) turned in a 78 (+6) to tie for 19th, and
Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) was one back of the sophomore with a 79 (+7), tying him for 22nd.
Carson Moscoso (Maple Grove, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) carded an 80 (+8) to put him in a tie for 24th, while
Andrew Carlson (Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee) finished out UNW's day with an 84 (+12).
Next up is the big one as Northwestern will partake in the three-day UMAC Championships, beginning on Thursday, October 2nd at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minnesota. The Eagles are expected to be among the top contenders in the tournament after a strong year thus far.
