Men's Golf Produces Record Day at BLC Invite

HUTCHINSON, Minn. - The good times continued to roll for the University of Northwestern Men's Golf team Friday at the BLC Invite at Crow River Golf Club. UNW notched its third win of the season by turning in a team score of 285 (+1), which not only gave it a 13-stroke victory, but also broke the program record for low team round set last spring (287). In addition to the team record, two Northwestern seniors also tied for both medalist honors as well as the program record for low individual round.

Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and Jakob Swanson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) were the pair of record-tiers at the top of the leaderboard for the Eagles, each shooting 67 (-4) to tie Mac Saby's mark from 2016. Seiffert lit it up with six birdies and an eagle to get to his 67, while Swanson made five birdies and an eagle; however Swanson's eagle just so happened to be a hole-in-one on the eighth hole, a sign of excellent things to come for the senior. Luke Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) made three birdies en route to a 75 (+4) and a ninth-place finish, while Carson Besonen (Madison, Minn./Lac qui Parle Valley) rounded out the record-setting team round with a 76 (+5), landing him in 12th. Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah) carded an 80 (+9) to wrap things up for UNW's "A" team.

Northwestern also brought a "B" team comprised of just four players. Those four proved to be no slouches either, finishing in third place among the 12 teams (six of which were "A" teams). Jackson Courteau (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) led the charge with a 75 (+4) to tie for ninth, while Carter Dilly (Henning, Minn./Henning) was one shot back in a tie for 12th with a 76 (+5) thanks to three birdies. Andrew Carlson (Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee) made three birdies as well and turned in a 79 (+8) to tie for 17th, while Carson Moscoso's (Maple Grove, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) three birdies earned him an 81 (+10) and a tie for 23rd.

UNW will hit the road again on Saturday to tee it up at the MLC Fall Invitational at Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota. The shotgun start will commence at 10:00 AM.
