Day One
Friday was another historic day for the Eagles, who seem to be stacking a lot of them in recent years. The team broke its own program record for low team round of 308 set earlier this season with a 303 (+15), 15 strokes better than the record coming into 2025. That score puts them in first place among the 39 teams in the field. Much of that record can be attributed to
Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool), who tied the program's individual low round mark with a steady 72 (E). The junior made one birdie and one bogey on each nine to achieve the feat, and is in first place out of 227 players.
The other holder of the individual record is Johnson's classmate,
Morgan Eckman (Jordan, Minn./Jordan), who turned in a 74 (+2) in the opening round and is tied for fifth place. Eckman was under par for much of the day, making two birdies on each side. Joining Eckman at +2 (74) and in fifth is freshman
Bri Brandt (Blaine, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy), who started off her day with a birdie and carded three total on her way to her career-low round.
Sondra Albrecht's (Ham Lake, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) 83 (+11) was the final piece of the puzzle when it came to team scoring, while freshman
Brielle Lenz (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) was right behind the junior with an 84 (+12).
UNW will look to finish strong in Saturday's final round at Brighton Dale Links.
Day Two
While it was nearly impossible for the Eagles to replicate their Friday success, they still put together a good round of 315 (+27) on Saturday and were in good position to win the tournament outright until Mother Nature stepped in. Northwestern was one of 22 teams to finish play in the morning wave and was the clubhouse leader before the afternoon wave's day was ended prematurely by inclement weather. Because Saturday's round was considered incomplete, UNW and
Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) retroactively became champions since the final results revert to Friday. The second-place team, Aurora University, received votes in the latest WGCA Top 25 Poll.
Since the Eagles did complete their final round, we'll tell you how they did anyway.
Morgan Eckman (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) was dialed in, using three birdies to shoot an even-par 72 and tie the program record that she and Johnson (as of yesterday) share, and finish the tournament +2. Had all teams concluded play, she likely would have won medalist honors. Johnson got off to a slow start in the second round before recovering nicely with a pair of birdies to post a 77 (+5) and finish the weekend at +5.
Bri Brandt (Blaine, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) turned in an 83 (+11) on Saturday to put her at +13 for the tournament, while Albrecht matched her 83 to finish at +22.
Brielle Lenz (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) was right behind them with an 84 (+12), finishing the tournament at +24.
