NEW ULM, Minn. - After last week's UMAC Spring Event was canceled due to thunderstorms, the University of Northwestern Women's Golf team was eager to get back on the course in Thursday's MLC Spring Invite. Clearly, the Eagles were ready to go, as the "A" team won the team competition against the entirely-UMAC field with a score of 333, and the "B" team finished with a mark of 376, which would have placed them in fourth.
Bri Brandt (Blaine, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) also earned medalist honors with the low score of the day.
Brandt's individual win is the first of the freshman's career, as she fired a 79 (+7) to win by three strokes.
Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) was the next-lowest Eagle from the "A" team with an 82 (+10), placing her in second.
Brielle Lenz (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) turned in a solid round as well, finishing in a tie for fifth with an 85 (+13).
Morgan Eckman (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) carded an 87 (+15) to place eighth, while
Izzy Lee (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Prep) shot a 90 (+18) to finish 11th.
For the UNW "B" team, Rolland led the way with an impressive 83 (+11) to finish in a tie for third place as the third-lowest Eagle of the day.
Jenna Voight (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) turned in a 96 (+24), while
Kylie Voight (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) was right behind her at 97 (+25). Rounding out Northwestern's day was
Hailey Nelson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) with a 100 (+28).
UNW will return to action Monday, April 27th in Stillwater for the Knights Spring Invite. It will be the final event for Northwestern before they partake in the NCAA Division III National Championship, beginning May 19th in Palm Desert, California.
