Eagles Wrap up Play in Wisconsin

KANSASVILLE, Wis. – On the heels of being crowned NCCAA North Central Region champions on Tuesday, the University of Northwestern Men's Golf team is looking to stay hot as it competes in the Midwest Region Classic this weekend at Brighton Dale Links. The stacked field includes 45 teams who will be on the course Friday and Saturday. To follow along with live scoring all weekend, click here.

Day One

Friday's opening round was a success for Northwestern, as it turned in a team score of 295 (+7) and has multiple players near the top of the individual leaderboard after the morning wave's completion. Freshman Carson Besonen (Madison, Minn./Lac qui Parle Valley) led the way with a 71 (-1) which featured two birdies on each nine and is tied for sixth place. Fellow rookie Luke Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) made three birdies en route to an even-par 72 and is tied for 12th, while Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) was one shot behind him with a 73, making one birdie on each side, which places him in a tie for 27th. Jakob Swanson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) carded a 79 (+7) to complete the team scoring for the day, and Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah) turned in a score of 84 (+12) with two birdies.

UNW is in fourth place as a team with 18 holes to play. The Eagles will look to continue climbing up the leaderboard in Saturday's final round in Kansasville.

Day Two

Saturday was another solid day for the UNW men, who were one of 20 teams to finish its round before inclement weather arrived. The afternoon wave did not finish, resulting in an incomplete leaderboard. Northwestern was in third place among those who finished after a final-round score of 297 (+9) to finish at +16 for the tournament, but the final results will revert to Friday's tallies, meaning Northwestern finishes in fourth place as a team and all individual places held.

Luke Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) paced the Eagles with a 73 (+1), including a birdie on the 11th hole, to finish at +1 on the weekend. Carson Besonen (Madison, Minn./Lac qui Parle Valley) turned in another solid round as well, shooting 74 (+2) with two birdies to tie Frazell for the tournament at +1. Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) also shot 74 (+2) on Saturday with five birdies to put the senior at +3 for the weekend. Jakob Swanson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) finished at +11 after a final-round 76 (+4) with a pair of birdies, while Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah) turned a 78 with two birdies himself to finish at +18 total.
