Johnson, Eagles Claim Victories at UNW Invite

ST. MICHAEL, Minn. – After a record-setting Saturday in Wisconsin, the University of Northwestern Women's Golf team returned to the links Tuesday, hosting the UNW Invite at Fox Hollow Golf Club. Facing the rest of the UMAC and battling morning showers, the defending-conference-champion Eagles set the tone and claimed first place in both the team and individual competitions. Full tournament results can be found here.

Northwestern's "A" team turned in a team score of 318 (+30), which would have tied the program record for low team round had Saturday's round not occurred. Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) paced UNW with a 77 (+5), including birdies on holes three, five and 10, to take home medalist honors. One shot behind Johnson was fellow junior Morgan Eckman (Jordan, Minn./Jordan), who birdied four, five and 14 on her way to a 78 (+6) and a second-place finish. Freshman Bri Brandt (Blaine, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy), fresh off a stellar collegiate debut over the weekend, stayed hot with a 79 (+7) and a third-place finish, including a birdie on the par-five fourth. Sondra Albrecht (Ham Lake, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) and Brielle Lenz (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) both birdied the par-five fifth, finishing with scores of 84 (+12) and 86 (+14), respectively.

The Eagles' "B" team had a solid showing as well, shooting a cumulative 344 (+56) to finish fourth among the seven full squads in the field. Ellie Rolland (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) continued her strong play after a career-best 79 on Saturday by birdieing the first two holes on Tuesday and carding an 82 (+10). Izzy Lee (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Prep) posted a birdie on hole five and turned in a score of 85 (+13), while Hailey Nelson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) finished with an 87 (+15). Kylie Voight (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) shot a 90 (+18) in her collegiate debut, while Mimi Miller (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) and Jenna Voight (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) each shot 93 (+21).

Northwestern will face off against its UMAC foes once again on Thursday, September 11th in the UMAC Preview Tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
