Eagles Wrap up Season in UMAC Semifinals

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northwestern Women's Tennis team began postseason play on Friday with a UMAC Semifinal showdown with Greenville University. In the end, the Panthers—the top seed from the conference's South Division—proved to be too much for the North Division's second-seeded Eagles. Greenville won every match that was completed en route to a 4-0 victory over UNW.

The first match of the day to conclude was the No. 2 doubles match in which Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) and Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) lost 3-6. The Panthers were able to secure the doubles point by defeating Northwestern's No. 3 (Caitlyn Swigart (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park), Isabelle Sullivan (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti)) and No. 1 (Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool), Aby Ross (Chico, Calif./Central)) teams by matching 4-6 scores.

Singles play began with a 4-6, 1-6 loss for Aby Ross (Chico, Calif./Central) at No. 4. Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) then fell 1-6, 3-6 at No. 2 singles before Jarchow's 4-6, 2-6 defeat in the No. 3 match made it 0-4 and ended the match. At the time the match was called, Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) (No. 1) and Swigart (No. 5) were in the second sets of their matches, while Sullivan's No. 6 match had not yet started.

With the conclusion of the season, Northwestern says goodbye to three impactful, soon-to-be graduates in Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool), Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) and Caitlyn Swigart (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park). Jarchow will graduate with the fifth-most combined wins in program history, while Johnson is tied for 15th in only three seasons. This trio will be missed and remembered fondly!
