MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northwestern Men's Tennis team's 2025 campaign came to a close on Friday afternoon in the UMAC Tournament semifinals, as the Eagles fell to Greenville University, the top seed in the conference's South Division. Northwestern—the No. 2 seed in the North Division—won the final doubles match but was not able to carry that momentum into singles play, ultimately falling by a 0-4 score.
After
Caleb Swigart (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) and
Caleb Jergenson (Livingston, Mont./Park) lost 0-6 at No. 3 doubles and the tandem of
Griffen Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) and
Isaac Thomforde (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) fell 2-6 at No. 2, UNW was able to salvage a win in the final doubles match of the day.
Carson Haack (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and
Sam Majerus (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) teamed up for a 7-5 victory in the No. 1 match.
In quick succession, Greenville was able to win the necessary three singles matches to clinch the win early. Thomforde lost 1-6, 0-6 at No. 4, while classmates Swigart and Majerus both lost 1-6, 3-6 at Nos. 5 and 3, respectively. Haack's No. 1 singles match and Jarchow's No. 2 tilt were both suspended in the second set once the Panthers had clinched the win, while Jergenson's No. 6 match had yet to begin.
2025 was a bit of a rebuilding year for Northwestern, but with no seniors on the roster, the entire team is expected to return next season after earning valuable postseason experience on Friday.
