Men's Golf Breaks Program Record Amid Several Career Days

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. – Thursday was a banner day for the University of Northwestern Men's Golf team, as the Eagles toppled the program record for team low round with a 287 (-1) in a dual against Augsburg at Keller Golf Course. The previous record of 289 was set in 2017 at the UNW Invite at Gross National Golf Club in Minneapolis. Northwestern also had a second team compete in the day's festivities, which finished with a score of 310 (+20).

Leading the way was Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong), who carded three birdies and 15 pars on his way to a 69 (-3) and a first-place finish, individually. Not far behind the junior was freshman Jackson Courteau (Otsego, Minn./Rogers), who was -4 through 10 holes thanks to three birdies and an eagle on 10, and ended up in third place with a career-best score of 71 (-1). Trevor Zenk (Forest Lake, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) made three birdies to fire a career-low 73 (+1) and place fifth, while Jakob Swanson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) made a birdie on the third hole and an eagle on 10 to finish with a 74 (+2). Although their scores didn't count toward the team total, Gordon Skaar (Coleraine, Minn./Homeschool) (three birdies, all on the back nine) and Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah) (one birdie) turned in good days with rounds of 75 (+3) and 77 (+5), respectively.

Northwestern's "B" team had a good outing as well, led by Noah Frazell's (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) 75 (+3), which featured birdies on three and 10. Carter Dilly (Henning, Minn./Henning) fired a 76 (+4) after birdieing holes three, 11 and 16, while Dawson Burke (Rogers, Minn./Maple Grove) finished with a career-best of 77 (+5) behind a trio of birdies himself. Andrew Carlson (Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee) turned in a career-low 80 (+8) that included a birdie on the par-five 10th, while Sam Schwarz (Marshall, Minn./Marshall) lit it up with four birdies on his way to a total of 87 (+15).

After the historic day at Keller, UNW will play one final dual to close out its season on Monday, May 5th at Carleton. The opening tee shot is scheduled for 12:00 PM at Northfield Golf Club.
