Season Bests and Personal Records Flow for UNW Women's Track and Field

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Northwestern Women's Track and Field team grabbed nine personal or season bests at the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational down the road at Macalester College on Saturday afternoon. This was the last regular-season meet before the UMAC Championships next weekend.

Emily Ashton (Camas, Wash./St. Mary's Academy) continued her impressive junior season as she won the javelin with a season-best throw of 36.75 meters (120'7"). Her heave broke the top 100 Division III ranking again, throwing a DIII 78th top distance. In the shot put ring, Grace Mangelsen (Siren, Wis./Siren) tossed a distance of 7.86 meters (25'9.5").

Naomi Wallace (Pipestone, Minn./Pipestone Area) went to work in three events, jumping in both the long jump and the high jump, while also running the 800-meter race. In the long jump pit, Wallace beat each jump on her way to a 16th-place finish with a 4.56-meter (14'11.5") jump. In the high jump, she cleared 1.45 meters (4'9") for a 6th-place finish. Also in the high jump, clearing 1.45 meters, Lily Hubbard (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) secured a 4th-place finish and a season-best performance, as she cleared each height with fewer attempts. In the 800-meter, Wallace finished 29th with a time of 2:46.13, just 0.6 seconds behind her teammate, Faith Matvey (Meadowlands, Minn./Lakeview Christian Academy), who clocked a 2:45.58 finish in 28th place.

Opening the running events, the 4x100 relay, consisting of Alvine Njounang (Virginia, Minn./Grand Rapids), Deanna Ammermann (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake), Matvey, and Grace Moravchik (Mason, Wis./Ashland), ran a season-best time of 52.00 seconds for a 6th place finish overall. Next in the meet was the 3,000 Steeplechase. Olivia Usselman (Stillwater, Minn./Math and Science Academy) was the lone Eagle in the event, and she placed 9th with a time of 13:49.11.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Grace Moravchik (Mason, Wis./Ashland) raced for the first time this season, securing a .02-second PR in the event. Her new personal best was fast enough for a 6th-place finish. Moravchik also took her mark in the 400-meter hurdles. Her time of 1:09.22 notched a 3rd place finish overall.

The open 400-meter dash saw a career-best time for Meghan Corbett (Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral), as she stopped the clock at 1:04.36 and finished 11th. A second behind Corbett, Njounang turned in a time of 1:05.50 for a 15th-place finish.

Deanna Ammermann (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake) raced in the two major sprinting events of the day. In the 100-meter dash, she placed 10th with a time of 12.81, while finishing 22nd in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.60 seconds.

Similar to the Men's Track and Field Team, all three Northwestern runners in the 1,500-meter race finished with new personal best times. Samary Acuna Arroliga (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) cut three seconds off her time and finished 36th with a time of 5:51.57. Shaving nearly seven and a half seconds from her time, Caroline Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) turned in a 5:20.52-second finish for a 20th-place finish. Leading the Eagle charge with a second-place finish was Emery Maki (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing). Maki dropped over a second from her time for a time of 4:51.67.

The Eagles will be back in action at the UMAC Track and Field Championship in Morris next weekend on Friday and Saturday.
