4x400 Win Paves the Way for Eagles at Gary Wilson Invitational on Wednesday

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Women's Track and Field team represented the University of Northwestern at the Gary Wilson Invitational on Wednesday afternoon. Unlike the Men's team, the women competed in eight events.

The 4x400 relay, with Alvine Njounang (Virginia, Minn./Grand Rapids), Deanna Ammermann (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake), Emery Maki (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing), and Grace Moravchik (Mason, Wis./Ashland), took home a 1st place finish with a time of 4:07.71 for an 89th-best time in Division III and a season-best time for this crew. Each runner from this relay also participated in open events to round out their afternoon. Ammermann and Njounang raced in the 100-meter dash, clocking 12.82 and 13.15, respectively. Njounang also took her mark in the open 200, where she finished with a time of 27.31. Maki competed in the 800-meter race along with Meghan Corbett (Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral). Maki came into the meet with a top-20 time and finished 15th overall with her 2:18.77 time. Corbett notched a 28th-place finish, turning in a time of 2:30.07. In the longest event for the Eagles, Caroline Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) raced in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase for the first time since 2023. She placed 10th with a time of 12:43.76

Moravchik had a busy day, competing in two additional events to go with the relay. In the 400-meter hurdles, she was in the fastest heat and finished 7th, clocking a time of 1:07.41. Moving from the track to the long jump pit, Moravchik jumped one jump of 4.48 meters (14'8.5") for a 24th place finish overall. Joining Moravchik in field events, Emily Ashton (Camas, Wash./St. Mary's Academy) threw the Javelin as the only Northwestern thrower of the meet. She heaved her first throw 35.49 meters (116'5") to qualify for finals. During finals, she threw a 6th-best throw of 36.06 meters (118'3").

UNW will take three days to recover before competing in the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational at Macalester on Saturday.
