Men's Tennis Falls to Macalester

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northwestern Men's Tennis team got to test the grounds it will aim to be playing on in early May on Saturday, squaring off with Macalester College at Baseline Tennis Center, the location of the 2025 UMAC Tennis Championships. The Eagles hope that their next visit to Baseline is more successful, as they left Saturday's match having suffered a 0-7 defeat.

Caleb Swigart (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) and Ian Barber (Worthington, Minn./Worthington) kicked off doubles play with a 0-6 loss at No. 3 doubles. Isaac Thomforde (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) and Sam Majerus (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) kept their No. 2 match closer with a 2-6 loss, and Carson Haack (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Griffen Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) wound up losing 3-6 at No. 1 doubles.

The singles matches unfortunately produced similar scores as the Scots continued to play well. Jarchow fell 1-6, 0-6 at No. 2, while Swigart suffered a 1-6, 1-6 defeat in the No. 5 match shortly thereafter. Haack dropped his No. 1 match 2-6, 1-6, as Caleb Jergenson (Livingston, Mont./Park) lost 2-6, 3-6 at No. 6 singles. The day concluded with Majerus losing 2-6, 2-6 at No. 4 singles, and Thomforde losing the No. 3 match 3-6, 2-6.

The Eagles will double up next Saturday in Owatonna when they take on St. Scholastica at 11:30 AM and Buena Vista at 6:00 PM.
