COLFAX, Wis. – The University of Northwestern Women's Cross Country team put together their strongest collective performance of the season on Friday at the Blugold Invitational, where every single Eagle either ran a personal best or set a new season mark. UNW secured a 25th place finish out of 36 teams.
Emery Maki (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) led the charge marking a 23:58.9 finish, which was just four seconds shy of her lifetime best set at this meet a year ago, earning her a season record. Isabelle Yuhanna (Ham Lake, Minn./North Lakes Academy) followed with a PR of 24:45.9, trimming five seconds from her best, while Natalie Van De Riet (Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) ran a personal record in her return after missing the Griak Invite clocking a time of 25:14.7.
Cheyanne Scalese (Lancaster, Minn./Lancaster Public) cut her time down to 25:28.5, more than 90 seconds faster than her previous mark. Caroline Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) matched her stride for stride, crossing the finish line right after Scalese with a time of 25:28.6 for a season best by over a minute. Alicia Arredondo (Robbinsdale, Minn./Homeschool) also clocked a season-best of 26:11.7, nearly a minute and a half faster than her last outing. Mariah Klippenes (South Haven, Minn./Annandale) chipped 11 seconds off her personal record with a 27:00.7, and Torah Barrett (Belle Plaine, Minn./Jordan) ran 28:00.0 in her first 6k of the season, setting her PR.
Closing out the lineup, Chloe Zimmerman (Helena, Mont./Capital) lowered her personal best by a full minute with a 28:50.7 finish, while Kimberlyn Case (Sleepy Eye, Minn./Litchfield) returned from injury to post a season-best of 30:45.1. Jessica Morrone (Phillips, Wis./Phillips) delivered one of the biggest drops of the day, slicing more than two minutes off her time to finish in 32:54.0, and Kennedy Van De Riet (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) capped things off with a personal best of 34:51.4.
The Eagles will return to competition on Saturday, October 11, at the Kent Finanger Invitational in Waseca, Minnesota, hosted by Luther College. The 11:30 race will serve as their final tune-up before UMAC and NCCAA postseason competition.
