BUFFALO LAKE, Minn. – After a good night's sleep, the University of Northwestern Women's Golf team teed it up for the second day in a row against UMAC competition at the MLC Fall Invitational. For the second consecutive day,
Morgan Eckman (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) emerged the victor among her peers in the medalist competition. What was different on Saturday was the team champion, as Northwestern came in second place with a 341 (+53), two shots behind Crown College.
After shooting a 75 on Friday at the BLC Invite, Eckman was lights out once again on Saturday. Steady play and a birdie on the par-three 13
th hole powered the sophomore to a 77 (+5) to take medalist honors for the second straight day.
Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) wasn't far behind her, finishing in a tie for second after shooting an 80 (+8) that included a birdie on the par-five eighth.
Sondra Melby (Ham Lake, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) carded a 90 (+18) to tie for ninth, while
Isabelle Lee (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Prep) and
Ellie Rolland (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) tied for 12
th with matching 94s (+22).
Emelia Miller (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) rounded out UNW's day with a 98 (+26), which landed her in a tie for 18
th.
Now is when the fun begins for the ladies, as the UMAC Championships await. The competition will take place Thursday-Saturday at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minnesota. The Eagles and Eckman are both defending champions in the event, but the Crown Polars appear posed to give them a fight.
