PALM COAST, Fla. -
Morgan Philyaw (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) will be adding another award to her crowded mantle, and this one is perhaps the most meaningful yet. The National Christian College Athletic Association announced Sunday at its Golf National Championships Banquet that Philyaw is the 2026 female recipient of the Dan & Kelly Wood Award. The University of Northwestern senior is the third UNW women's golfer to win the award, joining Mattie Krause in 2022 and Kirsten Darling in 2023, who were both teammates of Philyaw her freshman year. Four Northwestern men's golfers have previously won the award as well.

The award, which is part of the NCCAA's Game Plan 4 LIFE series, is given to one male and one female golfer from NCCAA institutions who best exemplify the Game Plan 4 LIFE standards of Love, Integrity, Faith and Excellence. Philyaw certainly fits the bill, as she has made an impact both on and off the course. The senior leads team prayer and Bible studies, serves at her local church, tutors others on campus, assists with local golf youth camps in her community, and participates in a multitude of team and campus-wide service projects. In the classroom, she holds a 3.88 GPA in Business Marketing, and is a four-time NCCAA Scholar-Athlete, three-time UMAC Academic All-Conference selection, and two-time WGCA All-American Scholar recipient.
Philyaw's accomplishments on the course deserve their own paragraph, as she will go down as the greatest player in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference history when she graduates this spring. A three-time NCCAA All-American and three-time UMAC Player of the Year, she has 15 individual wins and 31 top-five finishes to her name, with more events to come this week and next spring. Her name is all over the UNW record books, as she holds the top marks for low round (72, twice), single-season scoring average (78.3), career scoring average (79.3), and career rounds played (80). She is also part of the team records for low round (298) and low season average (327.5).
"Morgan embodies what this award is all about," stated Northwestern Head Women's Golf Coach
Billy Aune. "She is a team leader who is grounded in her strong faith and excels both in the classroom and on the course. She is the most accomplished golfer Northwestern has ever had and is an All-American in the sport, but she would rather be defined as a child of God. Morgan continues to grow in her role as a senior captain and has become more vocal in leading her team, both on and off the course. Her leadership role has evolved since stepping foot on campus three years ago as a freshman."
Philyaw will be competing in this week's NCCAA National Championship as an individual, where she will look to earn All-America honors for the fourth time in as many years. The 54-hole event will begin Monday morning at Hammock Beach Resort's Conservatory Course, and conclude Wednesday. Follow along with the live results all week
