HUTCHINSON, Minn. – The University of Northwestern Men's Golf team played in its home state for the first time since the UNW Invite on Friday, and clearly felt right at home at Crow River Golf Club. Four Eagles finished in the top 10 of the medalist competition to help Northwestern win the team title at the BLC Invite by eight strokes. UNW finished with a team score of 308 (+24), while host Bethany Lutheran came in second, just one shot ahead of Minnesota Morris.
Freshman
Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah) continued his hot streak Friday, finishing as the top Eagle in the field (third place) with a score of 74 (+3).
Gordon Skaar (Coleraine, Minn./Homeschool) was right behind him in fourth place after carding a 76 (+5), while Mersberger's classmate,
Noah Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock), turned in a 78 (+7).
Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) tied for 10
th place after shooting an 80 (+9), while
Carter Dilly (Henning, Minn./Henning) rounded out Northwestern's scoring team with an 86, placing him in a tie for 26
th.
Three more Eagles participated in the tournament as individual players, meaning they were eligible in the medalist competition but would not count toward UNW's team score.
Jackson Courteau (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) was the leader among them, firing an 81 (+10) to finish in a tie for 12
th place.
Dawson Burke (Rogers, Minn./Maple Grove) tied with Dilly for 26
th place with an 86, and
Trevor Zenk (Forest Lake, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) carded an 88, putting him in a tie for 29
th place.
The Eagles will be right back at it Saturday morning against many of the same teams as Friday when they tee it up in the MLC Invite, hosted by Martin Luther College. Tee times are set to begin at 10:00 AM at Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake.
