Marquardt Earns 100th Win as Women's Tennis Sweeps BLC

ST. PAUL, Minn. – After a disappointing first conference loss of the season last Saturday, the University of Northwestern Women's Tennis team was hungry to get back above .500 in UMAC play. The Bethany Lutheran College Vikings stood in Northwestern's way as the two did battle under the lights at the Johnson Tennis Complex on UNW's campus. The Eagles were swift and dominant in a 9-0 sweep of the Vikings, improving to 14-9 overall in 2024 and 2-1 in the UMAC. They also saw an individual milestone reached, as junior Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) picked up win number 100 of her career.

The #3 doubles team of Rayna Baumgarn (Holmen, Wis./Holmen) and Madeline Troolin (Cambridge, Minn./Homeschool) set the tone right from the jump, picking up an 8-0 sweep to kick off the match. Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) and Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) followed suit with an 8-1 win at #2 doubles, then Annie Orvis (Rochester, Minn/Schaeffer Academy) and Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) completed the trifecta with an 8-3 win in the ones match.

Northwestern kept its foot on the gas as singles matches began. Jarchow was first off with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #3 singles, then Baumgarn earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the #5 match to clinch the team victory for UNW. Marquardt picked up her 100th career win with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #4 singles, becoming the ninth player in UNW Women's Tennis history to hit that mark. Troolin continued to keep the train rolling, picking up a 6-1, 6-1 win at #6 singles. Orvis played the only match of the night that went beyond two sets, coming back from a 3-6 set one loss to win 6-4 in the second, and the tiebreak, 11-9. Johnson put the icing on the cake with a 7-6, 6-2 win at #2 singles, giving Northwestern the 9-0 sweep. Both of UNW's conference wins this season have been sweeps.

Next up for the Eagles will be Senior Day at the Johnson Tennis Complex. Northwestern will double dip on Saturday, April 20th with a 10:30 AM match against UW-River Falls, followed by a 3:30 PM tilt with Division II Bemidji State. Come on out and support your Eagles in their final home matches of the season!
