ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Women's Soccer team hosted Central College from the American Rivers Conference on Wednesday night. The Central Dutch arrived at Reynolds Field after a long trek up from Pella, Iowa. The Eagles dropped the contest to the visiting Dutch, 5-0.
Grace Coates had a big game for the Dutch and was a thorn in the Eagles' side all game long, scoring three goals and finishing with a hat trick.
The Eagles played well in the middle and later stages of each half, but it was the first few minutes of each half where Central would attack them. Central scored in the 3
rd and 7
th minutes of the first half to take a 2-0 lead before scoring again only 15 seconds into the second half.
Samantha Hansen (Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy) played the majority of the contest in net for UNW and finished with five saves.
Aylee Beimert (East Bethel, Minn./North Lakes Academy) also played in net for the Eagles as she made her collegiate debut in the final five minutes of the contest.
The Eagles had their fair share of offensive opportunities, finishing the game with 11 shots with 6 of them on goal.
Megan Kohrt (Monona, Wis./Homeschool) had one shot on goal and four total. Two of
Haley Mersberger's (Kiel, Wisc./Elkhart Lake Glenbeulah) three shots were on goal with
Briella Babcock (Byron, Minn./Byron),
Destiny Payan (Richfield, Minn./Richfield),
Meghan Corbett (Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral), and
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) all adding one shot apiece.
After playing three games in six days to open up their season, the Eagles will finally have a bit of a rest. Their next game will be in one week and it will mark their both their first road contest and their first UMAC contest. The Eagles will square off with the Vikings from Bethany Lutheran in Mankato on Wednesday, September 13
th.
