ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Women's Soccer team played their second game in four days on Monday night and once again the temperature at Reynolds Field was flirting with the 90s as the Eagles battled through tough conditions. The visiting Macalester College Scots won the battle on Labor Day, 6-0.
The Eagles defense was strong to start the contest before the Scots got their first goal in the 12
th minute. Macalester's offense was sporadic in the first half but still found a way to score again in the 39
th minute to take a two goal lead into the half.
The Eagles' defense really buckled down to start the second half as they didn't allow a goal for the first 25 minutes of the half. However, the Scots' offense got rolling in the final 20 minutes of the game and scored four goals to secure the 6-0 win.
The first half was the Eagles' better half. They fired nine of their ten shots in that first 45 minutes. Three of the Eagles' shots landed on goal.
Freshman
Samantha Hansen (Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy) continues to show toughness in net for UNW. Despite being a part of a hard collision in the box, she recovered to make 13 saves in the game, the same total she made in the season opener.
Haley Mersberger (Kiel, Wisc./Elkhart Lake Glenbeulah) finished with six shots and one of them was on goal. She had the best chance of the game for the Eagles, getting behind the Scots' defense and firing a strong shot on goal. The Macalester goaltender just got a piece of it to keep it out of the net.
Destiny Payan (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) had two shots in the contest while
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) and
Megan Kohrt (Monona, Wis./Homeschool) each had one.
The Eagles' busy week continues on Wednesday when they play host to the Dutch of Central College. Kick off from Reynolds Field is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
