CHICAGO – University of Northwestern Women's Tennis traveled to Chicago this week for their match against No. 36 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Thursday morning in the first round of the NCAA Championship Tournament. The Eagles fell 5-0 to the nationally-ranked Warhawks, closing their 2023 season.
UW-Whitewater earned the first point of the day with an 8-1 win at #1 doubles. The duo of
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) won four games in their #3 match, but the Warhawks took it 8-4.
Domiano Baideme (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) and
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) earned three games at #2 doubles, but UWW won the match 8-3.
In singles, the Warhawks won the #5 match 6-0, 6-0 to reach four team points. Whitewater reached the decisive fifth point with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #4 singles, clinching the match 5-0.
Northwestern finished the season 19-9 overall with a 10-0 undefeated record in conference. The Eagles won their third-consecutive UMAC Regular Season Championship and their third-consecutive UMAC Tournament Championship this year. In conference matches, UNW had records of 56-4 in singles and 29-1 in doubles.
