ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Northwestern Men's Lacrosse hosted Monmouth College on Saturday afternoon for their second conference game of the season. The Eagles' offense caught fire while their defense shut out the Fighting Scots for over 50 minutes in an 18-1 victory.
Christian Mitchell (Oak Grove, Minn./PACT Charter School) and
Sam Moses (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) led Northwestern with seven points each in the game. Mitchel had a team-high five goals with two assists while Moses scored four goals and was tied for the team-high in assists with three.
Austin Lemke (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Saint Croix Lutheran Academy) and
Connor Proshek (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) followed with four points each. Lemke had a hat trick and an assist while Proshek scored a goal and had three assists.
Lucas Peters (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East) and
Thomas Alderson (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) had two points each. Peters scored twice and Alderson had two assists.
Ryan Adkins (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville),
Khoa Vu (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee), and
Isaac Geurink (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) each scored a goal for the Eagles.
Henry Baklund (Carver, Minn./Southwest Christian) had an assist in the win.
On defense,
Peyton La Mere (Holmen, Wis./Holmen) led the Eagles with three caused turnovers. In goal,
Robert McHenry (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) nearly shut out the Fighting Scots with eight saves and just one goal allowed with just 9:16 to go in the game.
Adkins dominated the faceoffs for UNW, winning 15 of 20 and bringing in a team-high 11 ground balls.
Up next, Northwestern will host Northland College on Saturday, April 15 at 3:00 p.m. at Reynolds Field.
