Women’s Lacrosse Takes Down Hamline 18-6 to Remain Undefeated in MWLC

ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Lacrosse hosted Hamline University on Wednesday night at Reynolds Field for a battle between conference rivals. With the temperature below 30 degrees at game time, the Eagles endured the elements and defeated the Pipers in an 18-6 victory. UNW improved to 2-0 in the conference while Hamline dropped to 0-1.
 
After trading goals to open the game, Northwestern went on a 5-0 run to take a 6-1 lead into the second quarter. Hamline cut into the Eagles' lead in the second quarter with a pair of goals, but UNW still led 6-3 at the half.
 
Hamline scored two of the first three goals of the third quarter to cut UNW's lead down to 7-5, but the Eagles proceeded to outscore the Pipers 11-1 from then on until the final whistle. Northwestern had a 9-0 run in the second half to give them a 16-5 lead en route to their 18-6 victory.
 
Samantha Wiebold (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) and Ava Whitcomb (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) both led the Eagles with six points. Wiebold earned hers with a double hat trick whereas Whitcomb had one goal and assisted with five others.
 
Cara Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) continued to be a force on both ends of the field. The junior midfielder had four goals and an assist for five points on offense while leading the Eagles' defensive effort with five caused turnovers and four ground balls.
 
Maddie Hauer (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) and Emma Snyder (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) both recorded hat tricks for UNW. Hauer also had three caused turnovers while Snyder led Northwestern with six draw controls.
 
Emma Ruegemer (Cold Spring, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) and Abby Scheel (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) both added to the Eagles' offensive attack with Ruegemer recording three assists and Scheel scoring a goal.
 
In goal, Daisy Koffler (Pine City, Minn./Pine City) earned the win for UNW while recording eight saves.
 
Up next, Northwestern will take on Edgewood College on Monday, April 10 at 1:00 PM at Reynolds Field.
