ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Lacrosse hosted Edgewood College on Monday afternoon for a non-conference contest. The UNW Eagles improved to 7-3 on the season with a 15-9 victory over the EC Eagles.
Northwestern took an 8-2 lead by halftime with an explosive offense and a stifling defense. The second half was a back-and-forth battle between the teams as both scored seven goals, but the big first half they had carried UNW to the 15-9 victory.
Abby Scheel (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) led UNW with five points in the game by way of a hat trick and two assists.
Cara Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) and
Samantha Wiebold (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) both had hat tricks as well in the win.
Maddie Hauer (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) had a game-high eight ground balls and caused four turnovers. Smith led Northwestern with five caused turnovers.
Wiebold and Smith let the way for Northwestern in draw controls with six and five respectively.
Daisy Koffler (Pine City, Minn./Pine City) earned the win in goal for UNW with four saves.
Up next, Northwestern will host Monmouth College on Saturday, April 15 at 12:00 p.m. at Reynolds Field.
