ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Tennis took on Webster University on Friday night at the Baseline Tennis Center for a UMAC Tournament Semifinal showdown. The Eagles earned a 5-0 victory over the Gorloks to advance to the Championship match on Saturday afternoon.
In doubles, the Eagles took an early lead as
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) took the #3 match 8-1.
Domiano Baideme (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) and
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) followed with an 8-4 victory at #2 doubles to double Northwestern's lead.
Annie Orvis (Rochester, Minn/Schaeffer Academy) and
Abby Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) earned a hard-fought 8-7 victory at #1 doubles to give UNW a 3-0 lead.
In singles, Baideme earned the fourth team point for the Eagles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the #3 match. Jarchow clinched the semifinal win for UNW with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #4 singles to earn the fifth team point for UNW. With that fifth point in hand, the other individual matches were stopped and the Eagles celebrated their team victory.
Up next, Northwestern returns to the Baseline Tennis Center on Saturday, April 29 for a the UMAC Tournament Championship match against Principia College starting at 1:00pm.
