ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Northwestern Men's Tennis took on the Greenville Panthers on Friday afternoon at the Baseline Tennis Center for a UMAC Tournament Semifinal showdown. The Eagles fell 5-1 to the Panthers, closing out their 2023 season.
In doubles, the Eagles earned the first team point of the match as
Stewart Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) and
Jacob Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) soared to an 8-2 victory in the #2 match. The Panthers followed with an 8-2 win of their own at #1 doubles. The #3 doubles match was well fought but Greenville emerged with an 8-6 win to take a 2-1 team lead at the conclusion of the doubles contests.
In singles, the Panthers earned wins in the #4 match, the #5 match, and finally the #1 match to reach the five points needed to secure the team win.
Northwestern finished their 2023 season with a 16-11 overall record, going 8-2 in conference play. The Eagles went 99-58 in singles matches and 51-29 in doubles this past season.
