MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Women's Track and Field team competed in a midweek meet on Wednesday night. The team made the short trip to the University of Minnesota Campus to compete in the Running on Hope Open. It was a monumental day for the squad as they saw multiple career bests and some of the best performances in program history.
Deanna Trucksess (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake) made program history in the 200m dash when she broke the school record with a time of 26.26 seconds. The performance was the best of Trucksess' career and was the fastest outdoor time in the 200m dash in UNW history. She also finished in 11
th place overall in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.75. This was also a season best time.
Emily Ashton (Camas, Wash./St. Mary's Academy) continued her great run in the javelin throw. After finishing second in the event at Concordia-St. Paul's meet last week, she picked up another second place finish on Wednesday. Her distance of 37.69m was a personal best and is the second best result in program history. She was in first place in the event for a majority of the afternoon, until the winner of the event put up the winning distance in her sixth throw of the day.
Winona Warden (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) ran in the 200m dash and finished with a time of 29.58 seconds, which was a career best.
Caroline Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) ran the 800m race in 2:39.91 which was the best college performance of her career in that event.
The Eagles will compete in their second race of the week on Saturday, April 29
th when they travel to Macalester College for the Rider/Bolstorff Open.
