ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Women's Track and Field team turned in their best performance of the season at the Holst Invitational hosted by Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday. The team saw an individual win an event, another place second, and a program record is being put to the test all in a single afternoon's work.
Deanna Trucksess (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake) continues to build on her impressive resume as the sophomore added another individual win to her name. Trucksess won the 200m dash against very strong competition by turning in a season best time of 26.77 seconds. Trucksess then finished fourth overall in the 100m dash with another season best time, 12.82 seconds. This time qualifies her for the NCCAA automatic qualifier.
Emily Ashton (Camas, Wash./St. Mary's Academy) also had a day to remember. Ashton finished second overall in the javelin throw by putting up a distance of 36.21m. This was a historic performance, as that distance puts her second all-time in program history. She also turned in her career best distance in the discus with a distance of 27.77m.
Carly Thompson (Gibbon, Minn./GFW) competed in the 100m hurdles for the first time in her collegiate career and finished in the top ten with a time of 19.73 seconds. Thompson also turned in a strong performance in the 100m dash with a time of 13.84 seconds which landed her 15
th overall.
Winona Warden (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) competed in the 200m dash with a time of 21.13 seconds and the 400m dash and finished in 1:11.31.
Last but not least was
Caroline Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) who had an impressive day in the distance races. She shaved off twelve seconds to notch her season best with a time of 5:27.91 in the 1500m run. She then finished in the top 25 in the 800m run with a time of 2:45.69.
After this strong day of competition, the Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, April 26
th at the Running on Hope Open hosted by the University of Minnesota.
