GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – University of Northwestern Men's Lacrosse competed in their second consecutive game in Michigan on Tuesday, taking on Calvin University. The Eagles scored four goals in the fourth quarter, but fell 15-4 to the Knights.
The Knight's offense put constant pressure on the Eagles defense, outshooting UNW 46-to-23 in the match to take a 12-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Northwestern scored their first goal early in the fourth quarter as
Christian Mitchell (Oak Grove, Minn./PACT Charter School) fired a shot past the Knight's goalie with
Connor Proshek (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) assisting.
The Knights scored thrice more after to go up 15-1, but the Eagles scored three of their own in a row to close out the game.
Sam Moses (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) scored with 8:18 remaining, assisted by Mitchell.
Isaac Geurink (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) added another UNW goal with 5:42 to go, assisted by
Thomas Alderson (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead). Moses scored once more with
Lucas Peters (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East) assisting before the end of the game, bringing his season goal total to a team-high seven through three games.
On defense,
Jakob Montesi (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) led the Eagles with four caused turnovers in the game.
Robert McHenry (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) had 18 saves in goal for the Eagles; seven more than the three Calvin goalies had combined.
Up next, Northwestern returns home to Reynolds Field for their home opener this Saturday, March 11 at 1:00 PM for a non-conference battle against the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Scarlet Hawks.
