FOND DU LAC, Wis. – University of Northwestern Men's Lacrosse battled Marian University on Saturday in a non-conference road game. The Eagles fell 11-6 to the Sabres.
Thomas Alderson (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) led the UNW offense with two goals in the game and added an assist for a team-high three points.
Peyton La Mere (Holmen, Wis./Holmen) led the defensive effort with four caused turnovers in the game while picking up six ground balls and notching an assist.
In goal,
Robert McHenry (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) had 18 saves with an impressive save percentage of 62.1 percent while facing more than twice the total shots taken as the Marian goalie with the Sabres outshooting the Eagles 55-to-27.
The Eagles dominated the faceoffs as
Ryan Adkins (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) won 14-of-18 faceoffs and
Brenden Schuffenhauer (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) added 1-of-2 for a 15-to-20 success rate against the Sabres.
UNW and Marian traded goals back and forth in the opening quarter.
Sam Moses (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) scored the opening goal of the game for UNW. After the Sabres tied it up at 1-1,
Christian Mitchell (Oak Grove, Minn./PACT Charter School) added another Eagle goal. Marian once again tied the game to go to the second at 2-2.
Northwestern took the lead again in the opening minute of the second period as
Austin Lemke (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Saint Croix Lutheran Academy) scored, putting the Eagles up 3-2. The Sabres went on to score four in a row to take a 6-3 lead over UNW. Alderson scored his first of the day before halfime to set the score at 6-4.
Isaac Geurink (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) scored a goal for the Eagles in the third, but the Sabres added three more to go up 9-5. Alderson added one more in the final frame, but Marian added another two to take the game 11-6.
Up next, Northwestern will travel to Northland College to take on the Lumberjacks on Wednesday, March 22 at 4:00 PM for a non-conference contest against the conference opponent.
