ASHLAND, Wis. – University of Northwestern Men's Lacrosse took on Northland College on Wednesday in a non-conference road game against a conference opponent. The Eagles fell 7-5 to the Lumberjacks.
Christian Mitchell (Oak Grove, Minn./PACT Charter School) gave the Eagles the lead in the final minute of the opening quarter. The freshman scored an unassisted goal to send UNW to the second quarter up 1-0.
Northland tied the game in the second period, but
Austin Lemke (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Saint Croix Lutheran Academy) retook the lead for Northwestern with a goal assisted by
Connor Proshek (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount).
The Lumberjacks went on a five-goal scoring run to take a 6-2 lead with 1:35 remaining in the third quarter.
Thomas Alderson (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) scored just 20-seconds later to cut the Eagles' deficit down to three goals. The Lumberjacks added one more to retake their four-goal lead, but
Sam Moses (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) and Alderson each scored in the final ten minutes to bring the Eagles back withing two goals. Northwestern's rally would fall short though as Northland closed out the game with a 7-5 win.
Up next, Northwestern will host Edgewood College on Saturday, March 25 at 3:00pm at Reynolds Field.
