KALAMAZOO, Mich. – University of Northwestern Men's Lacrosse traveled to Michigan for a pair of road games, starting with a battle against Kalamazoo College on Saturday. The Eagles fell 13-5 to the Hornets in the non-conference contest.
Kalamazoo jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter.
Lucas Peters (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East) put the Eagles on the scoreboard with the last goal of the opening frame, scoring unassisted with 3:31 to go in the first. The Hornets scored three goals in the second quarter to take an 8-1 lead at halftime.
Following a Kalamazoo goal to start the third quarter,
Christian Mitchell (Oak Grove, Minn./PACT Charter School) found the back of the net for Northwestern with an unassisted goal. The Hornets went on to score four more times, but the Eagles closed out the game with three consecutive goals of their own.
Ryan Adkins (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) gave UNW their third goal of the day with 5:39 to go.
Sam Moses (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) then scored back-to-back goals to end the game on a high note for the Eagles.
Northwestern outperformed Kalamazoo in faceoffs as the UNW duo of Adkins and
Brenden Schuffenhauer (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) combined to win 16-of-22 faceoffs against the Hornets.
Up next, Northwestern travels to Grand Rapids, Michigan to take on the Calvin University Knights on Tuesday, March 7 at 4:00pm local (3:00pm central) at Zuidema Field.
