Women’s Lacrosse Soars to 21-2 Home Opener Win over UW-Stout

ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Lacrosse hosted the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference contest at Reynolds Field. UNW soared to a 21-2 victory in their home opener over the Blue Devils with ten different Eagles scoring in the win.
 
Northwestern set the tone in the opening quarter as the Eagles went up 6-0 halfway through the opening frame. UNW added another goal in the opening minutes of the second quarter to go up 7-0, but the Blue Devils proceeded to score two minutes later.
 
After that UW-Stout goal, the Eagles scored 13 consecutive goals to go up 20-1 by the end of the third quarter. The Blue Devils and Eagles traded goals in the fourth quarter to close out the 21-2 UNW victory.  
 
Abby Scheel (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) and Cara Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) led UNW with five points each. Scheel scored a hat trick and assisted with two other goals. Smith had a pair of goals and three assists while leading the Eagles with five caused turnovers and six ground balls.
 
Lauren Paar (Centerville, Minn./Centennial) led Northwestern with four goals and recorded a game-high nine draw controls. Samantha Wiebold (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) and Maddie Hauer (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) each recorded hat tricks to score six goals combined. Emma Ruegemer (Cold Spring, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) scored twice in the win. The quartet of Emma Snyder (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park), Ainsley Thompson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview), Grace Teal (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), and Ava Whitcomb (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) accounted for the remaining four Northwestern goals.
 
Up next, Northwestern will travel to University of Wisconsin-River Falls for a game on Wednesday, March 29 at 7:00pm at Ramer Field.
