RIVER FALLS, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Lacrosse traveled to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Wednesday night for a non-conference away contest. UNW battled neck-and-neck with UWRF early, but an 11-goal run by the Falcons led them to a 17-6 victory over the Eagles.
River Falls scored the opening two goals of the game, but the Eagles responded in kind.
Emma Snyder (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) put UNW on the board with an unassisted goal midway through the opening quarter.
Lauren Paar (Centerville, Minn./Centennial) followed 37 seconds later with another unassisted goal for Northwestern to tie the game up at 2-2.
The Falcons went on to score back-to-back goals again; first in the final minute of the first quarter and again in the opening minutes of the second.
Samantha Wiebold (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) would tie the game up at 4-4 for the Eagles with back-to-back unassisted goals of her own just 33 seconds apart.
After that, UWRF found a rhythm and went on to score 11 goals in a row to take a 15-4 lead by the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter, both teams scored twice more. Wiebold stopped the Falcons' run in the opening of the quarter with her third unassisted goal of the night, completing a hat trick. UWRF answered with another goal, but Paar answered right back with her second unassisted goal of the game. The Falcons scored once more to close out the game 17-6.
Up next, Northwestern will travel to Cornell College on Saturday, April 1 for a game at 11:00am in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
