LA CROSSE, Wis. – University of Northwestern Women's Lacrosse battled University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Wednesday night in a non-conference road game. The UNW Eagles fell 12-5 to the UWLC Eagles.
La Crosse went up 6-0 in the opening half and scored in the opening minute of the third quarter to go up by seven goals.
Grace Teal (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) put the Eagles on the board less than a minute later with an unassisted goal. The home-team Eagles went on to score four consecutive goals to go up 11-1.
Northwestern found a spark down the stretch to score four consecutive goals of their own.
Ava Whitcomb (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) scored back-to-back unassisted goals for UNW.
Cara Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) followed with another Eagle goal.
Samantha Wiebold (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) then scored a player-down goal with five minutes remaining, assisted by
Ainsley Thompson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview). UWLC would score once more to take the game 12-5.
In addition to her goal, Smith led the Eagles with 10 ground balls and four caused turnovers in the game.
Lauren Paar (Centerville, Minn./Centennial) had a game-high five draw controls for UNW.
Up next, Northwestern will host University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday, March 25 at 12:00pm at Reynolds Field.
