HARRISONBURG, Va. – University of Northwestern Women's Lacrosse battled Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday for the third and final game of the Eagles' spring break in Virginia. UNW entered the game having already earned 21-13 and 14-6 wins in their previous contests this week. The Eagles concluded their dominant spring break run with a 15-3 rout of the Royals, completing a three-game sweep on the east coast.
Lauren Paar (Centerville, Minn./Centennial) spearheaded the Eagles' attack with a double hat trick, scoring six goals and recording an assist for a seven-point game. The sophomore also had a game-high five draw controls, helping UNW outperform EMU on the draw 12-to-9.
Emma Snyder (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) had the second-most goals for Northwestern in the win, recording a hat trick and adding an assist for a four-point game. UNW's offensive attack was well rounded as six different Eagles accounted for the remaining six goals in the win.
On defense, eight different Eagles caused a Royal turnover in the game.
Daisy Koffler (Pine City, Minn./Pine City) earned the win in goal for UNW, saving six shots on goal.
Northwestern jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. Eastern Mennonite scored to get on the board in the first quarter, but UNW added one more goal before the end of the opening frame to lead 5-1.
The second quarter was relatively quiet as the Eagles scored the one and only goal of the period, giving UNW a 6-1 lead by halftime. In contrast, the third quarter saw Northwestern score six goals while shutting out the Royals to take a 12-1 lead into the final frame.
UNW outscored EMU in the fourth quarter 3-2 to close out the 15-3 win.
Up next, Northwestern will return home to Minnesota to take on Edgewood College in their home opener on Saturday, March 18 at 1:00pm at Reynolds Field.
