FERRUM, Va. – University of Northwestern Women's Lacrosse took on Ferrum College on Friday for the second of three games for UNW in Virginia over spring break. The Eagles defeated the Panthers 14-6 to stay undefeated on the east coast and improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Eagles scored thrice in the first six minutes to go up 3-0. The Panthers got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter, but UNW responded with another three-goal run to take a 6-1 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Northwestern scored six goals while holding Ferrum to just two to go up 12-3. The Panthers outscored the Eagles 3-2 in the final quarter, but the game was well in hand by that time as UNW took the 14-6 win.
Abby Scheel (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) led the Eagles offense in the win with a team-high six points, scoring a hat trick and assisting with three other goals.
Samantha Wiebold (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) had her second-consecutive four-goal game for UNW and added an assist for five points.
Maddie Hauer (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) had a five-point game as well, scoring twice and notching three assists.
Cara Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) netted a hat trick and took control of a team-high five ground balls.
On defense, UNW caused 14 turnovers with five Eagles recording two apiece. In goal,
Daisy Koffler (Pine City, Minn./Pine City) had 11 saves for a stellar 64.7 percent save percentage.
Up next, Northwestern will take on Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday, March 11 at 1:00pm local (12:00pm CST) for their third and final match of spring break in Virginia.
