Women’s Basketball’s Undefeated UMAC Record Reaches Double Digits as Eagles Win 77-47 at Crown

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Basketball traveled to Crown College on Saturday afternoon for their fifth-consecutive conference road game. The Eagles remained undefeated in the UMAC with a 77-47 win over the Polars. UNW stands atop the conference with a 10-0 record, four games ahead of North Central and Minnesota Morris who are both tied in second place at 6-4 with four games remaining.
 
After Jasmine Sondrol (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River) scored the opening basket of the game, the Polars hit a three to take a 3-2 lead. Lexi Hagen (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) made a jumper less than a minute later to give the Eagles a lead they would keep for the remainder of the game.

Hagen's basket sparked a 16-0 run for Northwestern, putting the Eagles up 18-3. UNW closed out the opening quarter up by 11 points, leading 24-13. UNW was extremely efficient from the field, shooting 66.7 percent (10-for-15) overall and 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from three-point range in the opening quarter.
 
The Eagles offensive volume cooled in the second quarter, though their shooting percentages remained fantastic. UNW outscored the Polars 14-13 in the frame to go up 42-27 at the half, shooting 63.6 percent (7-for-11) from the field and 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from beyond the arc.
 
In the third quarter, the Eagles outscored the Polars 19-9 to go up by 25 points, leading 61-36. UNW went 55.6 percent (5-for-9) from the field, making 42.9 percent (3-for-7) of their threes. After getting no free-throw opportunities in the first half, the Eagles made 6-of-7 from the charity stripe in the third quarter.
 
Northwestern closed out the game with a strong fourth quarter, shooting 62.5 percent (5-for-8) from the field and making one of their two three-point shots. UNW outscored Crown 16-11 in the final frame to wrap up the 77-47 conference win.
 
The Eagles ended the game with a 62.8 percent (27-for-43) clip from the field, a 52.2 percent (12-for-23) average from beyond the arc, and an 84.6 percent (11-for-13) rate at the free-throw line. The Polars shot 32.1 percent (18-for-56) from the field, 29.0 percent (9-for-31) from three-point range, and 33.3 percent (2-for-6) at the charity stripe.
 
Lexi Hagen (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) led the Eagles with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting, making 3-of-7 from long range and tying for the team-high in rebounds with five. Allison Terry (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) followed with 11 points off the bench in just 15 minutes. Jasmine Sondrol (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River) and Megan McGeough (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) each scored 10 points for Northwestern in the win.
 
Up next, Northwestern will finally return to the Ericksen Center for their first home game in nearly a month. The Eagles will host the Northland College Lumberjills for a conference battle at 7:15 P.M. on Friday, February 10.
