MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Women's Track and Field team competed in their second indoor meet of the season on Saturday afternoon when they traveled down the road to compete in the Gopher Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota. It was a historic afternoon for the Eagles as sophomore
Deanna Trucksess (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake) ran the top time in program history in two separate events.
Trucksess competed in the 400m dash and turned in the fastest performance in that event in UNW Women's Track and Field Indoor history. Her time of 1:00.82 set the program record and gave her a seventh place finish. The previous record of 1:01.20 was set by Katie Maasz in 2007. Trucksess didn't stop there. The sophomore finished second overall in the 60m dash and tied the all-time program record with a time of 8.04 seconds. Trucksess' time is tied with Sonya Bugbee (1983) for the fastest in program history. Trucksess also finished ninth overall in the 200m dash with a time of 27.39.
Carly Thompson (Gibbon, Minn./GFW) and
Winona Warden (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) also ran the 200m dash and were right next to each other the entire race. The two teammates finished back-to-back with Thompson finishing in 31.17 seconds and Warden finishing in 31.23 seconds.
Priscilla Wright (St. Paul, Minn./Central) finished the 400m race with a time of 1:13.40 and also competed in the 3000m where she finished in the top 15 with a time of 12:19.03.
In the field for the Eagles it was
Carly Thompson (Gibbon, Minn./GFW) who jumped a 4.35m in the long jump and
Emily Ashton (Camas, Wash./St. Mary's Academy) who threw a 8.03m in the shot put.
The Eagles will be back in action at the Mayday Classic hosted by UW-Superior on Saturday, February 11
th.
