ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Women's Soccer team was at home on Saturday afternoon playing their third conference game of the season. The Eagles finished with a draw for the second consecutive game as they tied the University of Minnesota-Morris Cougars 0-0.
Defense was clearly the story in the contest in the scoreless tie. Disciplined backlines and good goaltending from both sides paired with tough conditions as the field was wet from the constant rainfall that came throughout the game made it difficult to score goals.
The first half was extremely even in the shots and possession categories of the game. The Eagles outshot the Cougars, but barely, tallying 9 shots to the Cougars' 8. In the second half, the Eagles controlled possession and had more scoring opportunities than their opponent. In the second half, the Eagles tallied 19 shots while the Cougars tallied 5. The Eagles had 15 shots on goal and the Cougars had 6 shots on target.
UNW played two different goalkeepers in the match with
Delaynee Bohatta (Hammond, WI/St. Croix Central) getting the start and making 4 saves.
Reagan Flaschberger (Shoreview, Minn./Centennial) also played and racked up 2 saves in the game.
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) led the way offensively for the Eagles with 7 shots while
Haley Mersberger (Kiel, Wisc./Elkhart Lake Glenbeulah) had 6 shots in the game.
Megan Kohrt (Monona, Wis./Homeschool) fired off 5 shots while
Mya Chan (Brandon, S.D./Homeschool) had 4 shots in the contest.
The Eagles will have very little time to rest after this one as they are back in action on Monday, September 26
th when they host the College of Saint Benedict and Reynolds Field. The game begins at 7:00 P.M.
