ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team hosted the Martin Luther College Knights on Saturday evening at Life Time Fitness in White Bear Lake. The Eagles swept the Knights to extent their win streak to 17 consecutive matches, improving to 18-3 overall with a perfect 7-0 conference record.
In doubles,
Belinda Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) and
Annie Orvis (Rochester, Minn/Schaeffer Academy) earned an 8-7 (7-4) tiebreaker win in the #1 match.
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Elli Dodge (Wahpeton, N.D./Wahpeton) swept their #2 doubles opponents 8-0 for the Eagles.
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) and
Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) took an 8-1 win at the #3 match to close out a sweep of the doubles competition.
In singles, Weddle led the Eagles with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the #1 match. Orvis took the #2 match 6-2, 6-0. At #3 singles, Smith won 6-0, 6-1. Dodge added a 6-3, 7-5 point at #4 singles. Jarchow earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #5 singles. Marquardt's 6-0, 6-1 victory at #6 singles completed the 9-0 match sweep for the Eagles.
Up next for Northwestern is their regular season finale at 4:00 P.M. this Sunday, May 1, at Life Time Fitness in White Bear Lake. The Eagles will challenge the Yellowjackets with a chance to clinch the UMAC Championship outright.
