SPOONER, Wis.- The University of Northwestern Women's Golf team was back in action on Wednesday after a brief pause in their season due to weather delays. The Eagles participated in the Yellowjacket Invitational hosted by UW-Superior, a meet that begins a busy stretch for the team.
The Eagles shot a 370 (+86) to finish third out of the four teams in the meet, behind UW-Stevens Point (+72) and St. Scholastica (+75). The host team, Wisconsin-Superior, shot a +137.
Kirsten Darling (Coon Rapids, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) and
Kelly Van Den Bussche (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) led the way for the Eagles as both players finished with an identical score on the afternoon. The pair of teammates each shot a 91 (+20) to finish in a tie for sixth place overall.
Mattie Krause (Clear Lake, Iowa/Clear Lake) was not far behind her teammates. Krause shot a 93 (+22) to finish in a tie for eighth place.
Claire Haakenson (Albertville, Minn./St. Michael Albertville) just missed a top ten finish as she landed in a tie for 11
th place in the overall standings. The freshman shot a 95 (+24) on the day.
Rounding out the top five for the Eagles was
Natalie Wilcox (Danville, Iowa./Danville) who finished the day with a 100 (+29).
The busy week will continue for the Eagles as they compete in Martin Luther's meet tomorrow morning.
